Nancy

This is a piece I simply traced and colored over. Not the most appreciated form of art, but it can be a little tricky in deciding which lines to actually use. What makes this project very fun is that you can apply any style you want to it, and almost just concentrate on the style.

Plus you can add your own inventions like the starry disco-ish background. She just needs a dance partner.

Vanities

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Continuing with sketching of lovely woman, I drew up a version of a Vanities magazine cover in a comic style in just black in white. I think I messed the eyes up a little, but i like the style. Done completely in Photoshop.

Freya – May 8, 2009

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Today’s model was Freya, a red headed young woman. I got to class late, so pickings for an angle was pretty small. I was able to get profile shot which was nice for a change actually.

My styles tend to change with the model, Freya seemed to have a comic book or fantasy quality about her. So I ended up drawing her only with black and white – no shades of gray. It was a bit experimental but a good exercise in working with those shadow shapes.

The hair was the toughest and it didn’t come out quite like I wanted but decent enough. I tool roughly eight images over the 5 hours it took to complete this piece.

Overall I was pretty happy with it, I may transfer this to another sheet and ink it for a better black quality. Next time I think I’ll return to a more realistic approach.

Carla – April 17, 2009

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Went to the local art center in New Canaan, where every Friday you can go sketch a live model. This week was Carla. I was only able to get in 3-4 hours worth of sketch time since I had other things to do. I went for a more angular style, capturing more of the planes than total realism. Toward the end of the sketch I started flashing her out, rounding out some of the features but you can still see the planes.

Sketch was done with 2B and 4B carbon pencils on Canson Layout.
