I inherited a brand new Samsung SC-MX20L camcorder recently, which I decided to quickly test out both the hardware and integration with my Mac. I use iMovie pretty much solely to create my masterpieces, so I need a camera that’s gong to play nice with the latest version of iMovie.
Surprisingly, iMovie recognized the camera and imported the video directly from iMovie. That’s the way I like it, uh-huh, uh-huh, That’s the way..
The video output however was pretty poor. It’s very grainy indoor with low light conditions. Even outside it had problems with grain and noticeable horizontal screening pattern.
The sound on this was quite good – maybe too good. The shots outside, the noise from the traffic is almost deafening.
Below is video I threw (literally) together with a few minutes of random footage (none of it interesting). But I used iMovie effects which were really fun to use!

Created this movie using iMovie 08 (and a touch of LiveType). The song is the Jack White/Alicia Keys duo from Quantum of Solace. The video is a compilation of images and video I’ve taken from the things I’ve done over the year. Quite honestly, there’s only a handful of events in the year that I was able to capture, but I worked with what I had.
In making the movie, I got to really learn about iMovie 08 and its capabilities which are quite impressive when you start to dig in. On the surface it seemed quite limited, but it does all the minute editing you’d need, even hitting timing the beats.
